Hybrid Orkestra
Electronic birds in the park
SOUNDINSTALLATION / VIERTELFESTIVALS 2010
The ubiquity of mobile communication has its influence also on other species on this planet: as a reference to the urban legend of the singing birds starting to twitter the ringtone melodies of their neighbourhood, the “Hybrid Orkestra” tries to re-interprete the birds’ whistle in an improvised concert. 20 discarded cell phones start their second spring as solar-powerd sound modules which are mounted in little woode bird-cages on the trunks of trees in the city park of Krems, Lower Austria. The phones are controlled by a random algorhythm and start to ring every day in the early morning hours- some sort of jam session altering our picture of ringing phones from acoustic pollution to a peaceful sign for the respectful co-existence of humans and animals.
